Head volleyball coach Paul Schlomer took the reigns of the Edgewood College program prior to the 2006 season. Schlomer guided his 2009 squad to the best season in more than a decade by an Eagle volleyball team. The Eagles went 16-17 overall and placed sixth in the Northern Athletics Conference. The team also gave Coach Schlomer his first postseason victory with an upset over third-seeded Benedictine University.
In the summer of 2009, Schlomer served as the chair of the Badger Region Volleyball Association high performance teams. Schlomer's 18 and under team captured the silver medal at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships with a 6-1 record. In addition, the 14 and under team claimed the gold medal.
The 2008 season could not have started better for Edgewood College as they started 3-0 for the first time since 1996. However, after that start the Eagles would finish the season 7-23 overall and 2-10 in Northern Athletics Conference play. Edgewood College upset eventual Northern Athletics Conference Tournament qualifier Benedictine University with a 3-1 victory on October 3.
In 2007 Schlomer led the Eagles to a 9-22 record. Edgewood College was able to put together a respectable record in Northern Athletics Conference play at 6-6. It was the first time since 1998 the Eagles finished .500 or better in conference play. Senior middle hitter Greta Gueths was named to the All-Northern Athletics Conference first team. Edgewood College made it to the conference tournament for the first time under Schlomer, but lost to top seed Lakeland College.
In 2006 Edgewood College finished with a record of 5-24. More than half of the total victories came in away games. In his first year at the helm of the Eagles, Scholmer was able to match the total number of wins from 2005. 2006 was also the first season of the Northern Athletics Confrence.
Previous to coaching the Eagles, Schlomer was the head Women’s volleyball coach at La Follette High School in Madison. Under Schlomer, La Follette was able to record back-to-back winning seasons in 2004 and 2005. Schlomer’s experience also includes head coach of the age 18 and under Wisconsin Select club volleyball team in which he compiled an 87-51 record from 2004-2006.
Schlomer currently lives in Madison with his wife Erin. They have a son Malcolm.
