ROCKFORD, Ill. (May 10, 2008) - Jack Walker drilled a pair of home runs as Concordia University Chicago pounded Rockford College 11-1 to earn a second title game at the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. The matchup is a rematch of the 2007 NAC Tournament championship game.
Rockford College drew first blood in the bottom of the second, scoring a run on a Brandon Smith single which drove Brett Russell home from second base. From that point on, however, the Cougars took control.
Bobby Truckenbrod and Zach Bickel drove in the Cougars’ first two runs in the third inning with an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Concordia Chicago then blew the game open as Jack Walker hit two-out home runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to forge an 11-1 lead. His two run blast in the sixth and three-run blast in the seventh were just the second and third home runs of the entire tournament. The Cougars scored six unearned runs in the seventh inning due to two Regent errors.
Ryan Hantel threw a seven-inning complete game, giving up just one earned run on five hits to improve to 6-2 on the season. Ken Krull took the loss for the Regents falling to 4-2 on the year. The win by the Cougars forces a second championship game for the NAC Baseball Tournament crown.
