NAPERVILLE, Ill. – In an enormous filed of runners at the North Central College Gregory Invitational, Edgewood College’s Andrew Garvey broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters. The only other Eagle to attend the meet, Connor Boushon, was just over a second off his school record in the 1,500 meters.
The Gregory Invitational serves as a final late season opportunity for athletes to establish or improve NCAA championship qualifying marks, so Garvey set out among a field of 81 runners, which included many of Division III’s best runners and a handful of Division I, Division II and unattached runners. Garvey placed 46th in the event, but smashed his own school record in the 5,000 meters by a full 15 seconds. Garvey finished in 15:31.66 to close out a stellar sophomore season.
Facing a similarly stacked field, freshman Boushon placed 42nd out of 74 starters in the 1,500 meters. His time of 4:07.45 missed his school record and personal best by just 1.2 seconds. Boushon closes an impressive freshman season, that saw him become the Eagles first individual NAC champion when he won the 3,000 meter steeplechase on May 2.
