MADISON, Wis. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its All-Region softball teams and Edgewood College’s Colleen Joyce was recognized as one of four Northern Athletics Conference athletes named to the Great Lakes Region First Team.
The Eagle third baseman earned the prestigious honor after finishing second in batting among NAC hitters with a .495 average, 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and a .563 on base percentage. She led the NAC and is fifth in the nation with a slugging percentage of .950. Her 10 home runs set a new single season record at Edgewood College and it was second only to KC Blahnik of Lakeland who tied the league record with 11 home runs in 2009.
It was the first All-Region selection for Joyce who joins Anna Snyder of Aurora, Carolyn Rogers of Dominican and Blahnik as NAC athletes selected to the Great Lakes Region First Team. Nine players from the NAC were selected in all to the three Great Lakes Region teams.
Joyce, along with the NFCA’s other eight All-Region First Teams, will be under consideration for All-American status. The NFCA will announce its All-America teams on May 14 at the NCAA Division III Women’s Softball Championship banquet in Salem, Va.
